Benefits of Ashoka
- Painful Periods (Dysmenorrhea):
Dysmenorrhea refers to pain or cramps experienced during or before menstruation. In Ayurveda, this condition is called Kasht-aartava. Menstruation (Aartava) is governed by Vata dosha, and maintaining balanced Vata is crucial for managing dysmenorrhea. Ashoka, with its Vata-balancing properties, helps alleviate abdominal pain and cramps by controlling aggravated Vata.
Tips:
a. Boil Ashoka tree bark in water until the water is reduced to one-fourth of its original quantity.
b. Strain the liquid and store the Ashoka kwath (decoction) in a bottle.
c. Take 8–10 teaspoons of this kwatha.
d. Add an equal quantity of water and drink it, preferably after lunch and dinner, to relieve menstrual pain. - Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (Menorrhagia):
Menorrhagia, or heavy menstrual bleeding, is referred to as Raktapradar in Ayurveda, which results from an aggravated Pitta dosha. Ashoka balances Pitta and helps control heavy menstrual bleeding due to its Sita (cooling) properties.
Tips:
a. Boil Ashoka tree bark in water until the water is reduced to one-fourth of its original quantity.
b. Strain the liquid and store the Ashoka kwath in a bottle.
c. Take 8–10 teaspoons of this kwatha.
d. Add an equal quantity of water and drink it, preferably after lunch and dinner, to manage heavy bleeding. - Piles:
In Ayurveda, piles (Arsh) occur due to an unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle, leading to the imbalance of all three doshas, particularly Vata. Aggravated Vata weakens digestion, causing constipation and swelling in the rectal veins, resulting in pile masses. Ashoka helps by balancing Vata and reducing swelling, discomfort, and burning sensations in piles due to its Sita (cooling) nature.
Tips:
a. Take 1/4–1/2 teaspoon of Ashoka powder.
b. Mix it with honey or water.
c. Consume it after meals for optimal results. - Leucorrhea:
Leucorrhea is characterized by thick, whitish discharge from the female genitalia, often caused by an imbalance in Kapha dosha. Ashoka’s Kashaya (astringent) properties help control aggravated Kapha, alleviating the symptoms of leucorrhea.
Tips:
a. Boil Ashoka tree bark in water until the water is reduced to one-fourth of its original quantity.
b. Strain the liquid and store the Ashoka kwath in a bottle.
c. Take 8–10 teaspoons of this kwatha.
d. Add an equal quantity of water and drink it, preferably after lunch and dinner, to manage leucorrhea.
