Winners see the benefit; losers notice the drawbacks.
The key to success is not hard work or intelligence,
nor the number of nights dedicated to a task.
Rather, it's the decision to quit or try again in ten seconds following failure.

I recall hearing the following statements regarding winners and losers.

Losers dislike waking up early.

Even winners dislike getting up early in the morning.

They still do it, however.

Anyone is eligible to win. You only need to want it more and work harder than everyone else.

How do I differentiate a winner from a loser?

  • A winner says, "Let's find out," and a loser says, "Nobody knows."
  • When a winner makes a mistake, he confesses, "I was wrong," whereas the loser responds, "It wasn't my fault."
  • The winner says, "Let me do it," while the loser says, "That is not my job."
  • A winner works through a problem, but a loser avoids it and never overcomes it.
  • A winner makes commitments, but a loser makes promises.
  • A winner says, "I am good, but not as good as I should be," whereas a loser says, "I am not as bad as many other people."
  • The winner always has a plan, whereas the loser has an excuse.

Most of us, whether successful or not, act on what is urgent. We run around pursuing deadlines, targets, and goals, doing what we have to do.

A crucial distinguishing factor between people who succeed and those who do not is that the successful tend to think beyond the urgent - and put in the effort, or find the time, since we are all busy, to ensure they get away from the urgent and spend time on what is important.

Unlike the urgent, the essential has minimal immediate impact, but it accumulates and compounds, and you need a little foresight - you need to think long-term, see the wider picture, and stick to your vision - to drive yourself to keep doing the important things.

Here is a little case study.

instance 1 - Time: (5 years ago)

There were two best friends: loser one and loser two. Both recently went through a difficult period in their lives that drastically transformed them.

Condition of the loser 1

I abandoned my life.
He was always looking for compassion from others about his losses.
He felt there was no purpose or justification for him to continue.
The atmosphere was negative.
I was often feeling demotivated and uninspired.
I became envious of insignificant events.
Condition of the loser 2

Being realistic and responsible, he accepted his defeat without taking it personally. He learned from his errors and got back on the horse. He did not give up, knowing he had lost the battle, but the war was still to be fought.

instance 2 - Time  (the current time)

Condition of the loser 1

He is still a loser, forced to live his existence.

Condition of the loser 2

Recently advanced to "Successful 1".

A conflict of perspectives between the two best friends has rendered them incompatible. Loser 1 found more losers, whereas Successful 1 found more successful ones.

Everyone fails in life, and that is not the method to determine who is who. The manner one chooses to react makes a huge difference.
